Paul Russell

Professor of English

Paul Russell is the author of five novels—The Salt Point (1991),  Boys of Life (1992),  Sea of Tranquillity (1994), The Coming Storm (1999;  winner of the Ferro-Grumley Award)) and War Against the Animals (2003)—as well as a work of nonfiction, The Gay 100:  A Ranking of the Most Influential Gay Men and Lesbians, Past and Present (1995).   His poetry, essays and short fiction have appeared in such journals and anthologies  as Epoch, Carolina Quarterly, The James White Review, The Black Warrior Review, Sou’wester, Lumina, Men on Men 4, The Mammoth Book of New Gay Erotica, Queer 13, Gastronomica and Best Food Writing 2001.  An extended print interview with him can be found in Hear Us Out:  Conversations with Gay Novelists.  He received an AB from Oberlin College, and an MFA, MA and PhD from Cornell University. His teaching interests include  Dickens, Joyce, Woolf, Mann, Proust, Nabokov, Gay and Lesbian Studies/Queer Studies,Twentieth Century British and Irish Literature, and Creative Writing.
